Kangaroo Vietnam’s General Director – 15 years changes the living habits of society

Kangaroo Vietnam’s General Director shared that Kangaroo’s biggest contribution to the society is to change the use of clean water to protect the people’s health.

With more than 2,000 employees, 5 goods sectors and 700 product lines, especially the brand of water purifier that put Kangaroo to the number 1 position of the household goods sector in Vietnam.

No one expects that all these results are due to Kangaroo’s relentless efforts in changing the living habits and health protection habits of consumers. Following is a quick interview with Mr. Le Xuan Hoan – General Director of Kangaroo Vietnam with interesting information on the occasion of Vietnamese Businessmen’s Day.

– Kangaroo was founded for 15 years, can you brief about some development stages and certain successes that Kangaroo has achieved?

Mr. Le Xuan Hoan: Kangaroo was established in 2003 with only 10 employees, starting with water purifier that was a real risky venture at that time, while almost the whole society was using water directly from wells, or roughly treated water through rainwater stage, settling thanks, sand tanks, activated carbon tanks, etc. In those years, water purifier was considered as a “luxury product” because its cost was much higher than conventional water filtration cost, moreover, customers had no experience and no concept of that product.

Seeing invaluable benefits brought by that product to the community in terms of protecting the health and utilities in life, it took 2 years for Kangaroo to sell the first equipment. And that was Kangaroo’s first success, marking the next steps.

Especially with water purifier, it is Kangaroo’s first product, and Kangaroo is also the first company to introduce the concept of water purifier to Vietnam, therefore, Kangaroo focuses all its resources on developing this product.

So far, although we have 5 goods sectors with nearly 700 product lines, water purifier is still Kangaroo’s most invested product from applied research to technological and design development. Currently, Kangaroo owns the certificates for the removal of human brain amoeba, arsenic toxins, and especially, Hydrogen generating technology in Kangaroo Hydrogen Water Purifier upon which Kangaroo is the first company to own this technology.

– The Company has made a positive contribution to the development of the capital’s economy, can you brief about some activities and your contributions to society?

Mr. Le Xuan Hoan: Kangaroo’s biggest contribution to society is to change living habits of the society, bringing standard clean water to the community, creating a habit of using clean water to protect health as well as a habit of new consumption in family activities, releasing women’s labor force for housework, raising the comfort in life.

And Kangaroo is still trying to invest in research and application to create more added values for society, contributing to the economic and scientific development of Vietnam in general and the capital in particular.

Currently, Kangaroo is creating stable jobs for more than 2,000 employees, maintaining regular public activities to contribute to resident communities where Kangaroo is operating, partly contributing to the development of society.

– In the tough market, enterprises must try to compete every day, even in the field of electric refrigerators, Kangaroo also have many competitors. What has been Kangaroo doing to assert its position in the heart of consumers?

Mr. Le Xuan Hoan: Competition is an indispensable element of development, however, we maintain the attitude “do not confront and always go ahead” at Kangaroo.

We still insist that if we want to be the leader, we should be a pioneer, therefore, in all activities from production to business, Kangaroo is pioneer in its fields. For example, with water purifier, Kangaroo started when the market did not have any concept of water purifier, after the success of Kangaroo, many water purifier brands were born.

Recently, Kangaroo spent nearly 3 years to research, develop and apply Hydrogen generating technology for water purifier that was announced in May, then a number of similar products immediately appeared in the market.

I would say that, if it were not Kangaroo, there would be no Hydrogen water purifier and it would be a great disadvantage for Vietnamese people.

– As a business, does Kangaroo encounter any problems or difficulties? Especially in the context of the shortage of high quality labor, has the Company faced this problem and what policies has Kangaroo had to recruit and retain good laborers?

Mr. Le Xuan Hoan: Kangaroo has developed a “development together” policy right from the beginning, which is to share benefits and development opportunities for its all shareholders, partners, customers, as well as employees. Therefore, we do not use the word “retaining” but the win-win cooperation, each person working at Kangaroo is working for his own “business”, for his personal career.

In addition, it can be said that the Kangaroo’s treatments are quite superior with the policies of caring for laborers themselves, their family and parents which shows the collective shares with each individual cooperating with Kangaroo.

– Can you tell us, does Kangaroo have any special policies in supporting the life of the Group’s employees?

Mr. Le Xuan Hoan: As I have just mentioned above, the policies are not just for employees themselves, but under the labor law and according to the company’s own rules, Kangaroo also develops policies for members in employee’s family, for their parents that make them feel secured when working. We also have policies to encourage creativity and breakthrough to create new values for society.

– As a businessman, what will you share for the next generations who want to start up a business?

Mr. Le Xuan Hoan: “If you do not have any new idea, do not start up”. Society always needs new values and business needs people who are really adventurous, creative, and dare to take the lead, dare to pinoneer, and enjoy achievements.
